The Brentwood Christian School track and field teams braved a hefty weather delay Wednesday at the University of Texas at Arlington, but still managed to qualify a number of athletes to the next round at the TAPPS regional meet.

The girls managed to finish fifth as a team, an incredible feat in a crowded field of TAPPS 5A teams.

It was a case of the usual suspects for the BCS girls. Senior Harper Counts finished second in the 3200 and third in the 1600 to qualify for state in both events, the fourth consecutive season she's accomplished the feat. She will be looking for elusive titles in both at the state level.

Elsewhere, junior Ava Johnson broke a seven-year-old school record in the 100, setting a new mark of 12.32 en route to second place and a spot at state. Johnson also qualified in the 200 (third) and helped the BCS 4x100 relay team, which also included juniors Lynden Worley, Anu Oguntade and freshman Kenlee Rubin, sang a spot at state.

Ogtunade also qualified in the long jump (fourth). Senior Hailyn Counts (third in the 3200) will also be making a multi-year appearance at state.

On the boys side, the 4x200 relay team of senior Matthew Crouch, junior Huxley Harlan and sophomores Tobi Olasode and Andrew Berger was able to qualify. Individually, BCS had one qualifier, senior Joshua Gonzales, in the pole vault.
