The Brentwood Christian School football, cross country, and volleyball teams all began practice the first day TAPPS allowed (Aug. 3) and have had an unusually long wait time between the genesis of their season and the start of school.

That will be rectified as classes at BCS begin for the 2026-27 school year on Wednesday, Aug. 26, and all three programs will have strong momentum heading into the grind of school-athletics balance that plagues all high school students.

The BCS volleyball team already has 15 matches under its belt for varsity, including two tournaments. Over the weekend, the Lady Bears hosted a tournament for local schools and performed extremely well, going 4-1 across two days of competition and earning third place overall. Their only loss was to tournament champion Valor North in a back-and-forth affair.

Led by seniors Alyssa Pennies, Renee Groomes and Kali Whitmire, the volleyball team has one more tournament at Bruceville-Eddy on Aug. 27 and 29 before settling into a more regular twice-per-week schedule the rest of the way.

Elsewhere, the BCS football team took down CTSA Outlaws, a homeschool program out of Waco, for their first victory of 2026 on Friday, Aug. 21. The Bears jumped out to a big lead in the first half and never looked back, led by big nights from running back Chigozie Okorafor and wideout Bradlei Moore.

The Bears will travel to Temple on Friday, Aug. 28, to face long-time rival Central Texas Christian School.

The running Bears, the BCS cross country team, have two meets under their belt. The first was in Temple, followed by the Vista Ridge Invitational over the weekend in Cedar Park. Sophomore Lowary Smith shined for the Lady Bears, with a 22nd place overall, while the entire program braved nearly 100 degree temperatures in their pursuit of another quality season.
