Track and field has traditionally been one of the most successful sports at Brentwood Christian School, and in 2026, that is shaping up to be true once again as the boys and girls teams are in the thick of district, regional and state competition.
Wednesday, April 15, at the TAPPS 2-5A track and field meet in Tyler, BCS took home third place as a team in both the girls and boys divisions, qualifying a high number of runners to TAPPS regionals and performing well overall.
For the boys, medalists included sophomore Tobi Olasode, who became the district champion in the 100-meter dash. He joined senior Nico Napper (3200) as runners who took gold and will be qualifying for regionals.
Elsewhere, seniors Joshua Gonzales (long jump, pole vault, discus), Matthew Crouch (200) and Ian Wiggins (800) all qualified for regionals in their respective individual events. In the three relays, BCS was also top-four, qualifying each for the next phase.
On the girls side, it was a case of the usual suspects. The team has won numerous meets this season and faced with its toughest competition of the season, were still able to bring home top billing in many events and qualify a high number for the next round of competition.
Leading the way was juniors Ava Johnson and Anu Oguntade. Johnson won both the 100 and 200 and helped anchor the 4x100 relay to a first-place finish. Oguntade won the long jump, qualified for regionals in the 300 hurdles and was part of both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays which won the meet and are moving on.
Returning state qualifiers included junior Lynden Worley, who will go to regionals once again in the long jump and high jump and both relays, and seniors Harper and Hailyn Counts, who both qualified in the mile and 2-mile. Senior Caitlyn Welsh, who qualified for state in the triple jump last season, is back in the regional round after a second-place finish on Wednesday.
Competition will increase at the regional meet, where BCS will square off with the qualifiers from 2-5A and the top-four in each category from the DFW district which includes Fort Worth Christian, Fort Worth Southwest, Midland Christian, and others, on April 29.
