WELSH, GONZALES, COUNTS SET SCHOOL RECORDS AT FIRST MEET

Welsh, Gonzales, Counts Set School Records at First Meet

STAFF REPORT

| 3/1/2026

In addition to several first-place finishes for Brentwood Christian School boys and girls last week at the first track and field meet of the 2026 season, two athletes set school records.

Senior Joshua Gonzales, a multi-time state meet qualifier for the Bears, had a strong overall meet, winning both hurdle events and the discus. It was in the shot put, however, which Gonzales finished third, that he also set a school record in the process.

Gonzales' best throw of 43-4 cleared the school record of 42-7, ironically also set by Gonzales last season. The previous mark of 42-6 was set by alumnus Trent George in 2012.

Elsewhere, another state qualifier from last season, senior Caitlin Welsh, took down another decade-plus mark in the 100 hurdles. Welsh's time of 15.79 was good for gold at the meet and nearly half-a-second faster than alumna Priscilla Glenn's time of 16.21 back in 2013.

Another athlete no stranger to records is senior Harper Counts, already the record-holder in the 1600 and 3200-meter races coming into the season, as well as the top cross country time. Counts' time of 5:15.96 was about three seconds faster than the mark she set back as a freshman in 2023 and was good for first place at the meet, too.

Congratulations to these BCS athletes on an amazing accomplishment!
