Brentwood Christian School had numerous gold medalists in its first track and field meet of the 2026 season, with both boys and girls earning first-place finishes at the Heart of Texas Relays in Brady on Feb. 26.
The girls took home the team championship, buoyed by first-place runs from senior Harper Counts (1600, 3200), junior Ava Johnson (100, 200), and senior Caitlin Welsh (100 hurdles).
Junior Lynden Worley was first in the long jump and second in the 200 to help catapult the Lady Bears to the top of the leaderboard. Additionally, the team's 4x100 and 4x200 relays took gold, while the 4x400 took second.
There were top-5 finishes across the board for the girls, including second-place runs from senior Hailyn Counts (1600, 3200) and junior Anu Oguntade (300 hurdles).
Elsewhere, the boys had a slew of strong finishers, including multi-year state qualifier and senior Joshua Gonzales, who already holds the current BCS record for the shot put and discus on the all-time leaderboard. Gonzales won the discus, was third in shot put and also won both of his hurdle events (110 and 300) to earn 36 points by himself on the day.
Elsewhere, senior Matthew Crouch turned in a first-place run in the 200 and a fourth-place finish in the 100, a strong start for another returning member of the squad. Senior Nico Napper, returning to track after a two-year absence, was third in the 1600 and 3200. Senior Dylan Sloan added a second-place finish in the triple jump and was fourth in the long jump.
The Bears will be back on the track in Lometa on Thursday, March 5.
