The Brentwood Christian School high school and middle school swim teams were in action over the weekend in Buda at the Veritas Invitational.

The middle school team, led by first-place performances from Ryan Nelson-Cook (200 free, 500 free) and girls relays (200 medley, 400 free) took first place overall at the competition.

The relay team of Jewel Montier, Maria Burke, Pyper Pounds and Bella Wilkes took home the 400 free relay title with a time of 5:36.54, easily outpacing the competition.

Other strong finishes included Montier in the 200 individual medley (second), the mixed 200 girls freestyle relay (second), Maddie Cabezas and Christian Kurtz in the 100 backstroke (both second).

Elsewhere, the high school team had its last meet before TAPPS regionals and state.

The girls were third overall, paced by strong performances from junior Zoe Ruiz (second in the 200 free, fifth in the 500 free and part of the fourth-place 200 freestyle relay) and sophomore Alison Nelson-Cook (first in the 500 free, third in the 100 butterfly). Sophomore Abigail Wood earned a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke.

On the boys side, sophomore Chayce Lee was everywhere, winning the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle. He and junior Perry Wood (fourth in the 50 free, fourth in the 100 backstroke) paced the Bears.

The next meet for the high school will be the TAPPS regional meet on Jan. 26 in San Antonio.
