As the new basketball season tips off, the boys' varsity team is entering with fresh energy.

The players believe this year's group brings a strong mix of leadership, athleticism, and team chemistry. The group is still trying to find its rhythm, but players say the potential is already clear to them.

“We got a lot of new people, so we're still trying to find our dynamic, but I think leaders are stepping up,” said junior Cam Cunningham, who is entering the season with high hopes for both himself and the team.

Cunningham believes growth will define this season—not only individually but as a group.
Head Coach Dustin Karrer is also optimistic about what his players can accomplish. With the pre-season completed, he says the focus now turns toward steady improvement and accountability.

“Commitment to our daily process of getting better and holding each other accountable,” said Karrer of his goals for 2025-26. “If we stay process oriented, the results will take care of themselves.”

The team has already faced the battles of three tournaments, including recently at Houston Christian, where they went 2-2 with a pair of solid wins over Frisco Legacy Christian and International Leadership of Texas.

Karrer described this year's roster as a uniquely coachable and humble group.

“We have a group that is really fun to be around,” he said. “They work hard, are willing to be coached, and super humble.

“I am proud of the culture of this community, but it's always fun to add new guys to the equation.”

A major part of the team's identity will come from its returning veterans. Karrer mentioned senior Caleb Catron and junior Evan Berger, two players who have seen minutes during the team’s last two trips to the state tournament, as major factors.

Depth will also be on the rise as injured players return to the lineup, including senior Zach Czerlinsky, still nursing an injury from football season, but expected to be ready to go by January.

As for the mindset moving forward, Karrer keeps the message simple:

“[We need] to trust our process,” he said. “Respond to adversity the right way. Have each other’s back and get one percent better every day.”

The team will have two games over the break, Dec. 22 against John Paul II - Schertz and Dec. 30 against Hill Country, before starting district play Jan. 3 versus Tyler Grace.
