The Brentwood Christian School girls soccer team kicked off their season with excitement, new players, and a big focus on teamwork and faith. With about half the team being new this year, the Lady Bears are working hard to build chemistry and improve together.
Returning members such as juniors Ava Cavada, Alyssa Pennies, and Kali Whitmire, along with the only senior and captain, Ally Robertson, are working together to lead the team.
“My plans for the team this year are to compete in both non-district and district play, while focusing on improving each day and playing together,” said head coach Emma Hinson. “More than anything, I hope this season teaches the girls how to glorify God through sport and to truly enjoy competing alongside one another.”
The team has had its share of ups and downs already, but a high point came on Dec. 11, when they beat Veritas Academy, 4-0, at home. Freshman Erin Lee had a pair of goals, as did Cavada, who is loving the atmosphere this season.
“I would describe the team dynamic as very encouraging and uplifting,” Cavada said. “Everyone’s quick to cheer each other up and encourage each other, even when mistakes are made.”
“The team is so fun and loving to be around…everyone is so quick to motivate others and laugh,” Robertson added. “I can’t wait to see how this season goes, and how we all grow.”
Outside of soccer, the team has demonstrated their commitment to being a team and working together by working at Operation Christmas Child, hosted at Grace Covenant Church, where they joined other BCS students and teams to pack over 1,800 Christmas boxes for children in need.
The Lady Bears are excited to see how the season unfolds as they grow together, compete with heart, and represent Brentwood Christian School both on and off the field.
Their first district match is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 9, in Bullard vs. Brook Hill School.
