The Brentwood Christian School volleyball team showed resilience, hard work, and fight all the way until the end of their season.
With a difficult schedule and various forms of adversity, the program ultimately used this season as an opportunity to heighten their skills. Despite finishing 1-6 in district play, the growth the team saw led to a bond between players and coaches that they are looking forward to improving upon next season.
“Even though we didn’t win the district, we grew so much as a team and we achieved so much in the little things,” said sophomore Chloe Krudwig. “We learned from our mistakes and we overcame the obstacle of not having hope at the start of the season.”
Breaking in new coaches in head coach Cheyanne Lovelady and assistant coach Ellie Ward, the program feels confident in the future after embracing its trials and inexperienced players.
“At the beginning of the year, we were still figuring out our identity,” said Lovelady. “As the season went on, the players became more confident in their roles and learned to trust each other.”
This year, the volleyball program will be saying goodbye to three seniors, Addison Everline, Jolie Shepard, and Claire Morris.
The Lady Bears received two TAPPS 2-5A accolades, with Everline receiving second team all district and Shepard receiving honorable mention. Both were key leaders and captains.
“The seniors showed me what it’s like to be a leader and made me love the game more,” said freshman Reese Smith. “Both our captains showed us how to have a good attitude and how to be a team player.”
All in all, the team left a legacy for a program to be grown. Next year, the Lady Bears hope to continue to grow in their confidence as players and be able to compete at a higher level. They hope to be a strong competitor within district play with a returning group of players which will include current juniors Alyssa Pennies and Renee Groomes.
