Football Dominates New Tech, Gains Momentum Toward District Opener

The Brentwood Christian School football team moved to 3-1 last Friday night in a convincing 56-21 victory over Manor New Tech.

The Bears' third-straight win comes at a good time, as the program is gearing up for TAPPS Division II District 2 action this upcoming Friday on the road at Grace Community School in Tyler.

As he's done throughout his career, senior quarterback Brayden Jennings was the bell cow for the Bears in Manor. He accounted for six of the team's eight touchdowns against New Tech, including four through the air and two on the ground. For the season, Jennings is up over 600 yards passing, 500 yards rushing and 17 total touchdowns, all team highs.

Jennings connected with senior Zach Czerlinsky for two touchdowns through the air early in the first quarter. Interceptions by freshman Chigozie Okorafor and senior Gabe Washington, who's had an interception in each of the last three games, set the stage for Brentwood to take a big lead at the half, and it never looked back.

The big victory was somewhat dampened by injuries to key seniors Czerlinsky and newcomer Thomas Calder. Both players' status is up in the air for next week.

After finishing 2-4 in district play last season, the Bears will look to capitalize on key momentum from their current three-game winning streak in heading to East Texas. Last season, BCS fell just short in a 35-42 loss at home.

This time around, with a senior-laden class and improving trench play, the Bears will look to assert themselves as a potential playoff team with an upset win at Grace on Friday.
