The Brentwood Christian School track and field teams hit the road to Thrall on Wednesday to avoid this weekend's eventual downpour. Despite getting home toward the midnight hour, the boys and girls both had impressive showings, earning third (girls) and fourth (boys) overall in the varsity final standings.
For the girls, juniors Harper Counts (first in 1600) and Hailyn Counts (second in 1600), sophomore Ava Johnson (first in 100, second in 200), junior Caitlin Welsh (third in long and triple jump) and sophomore Anu Oguntade (fourth in long jump, third in 300 hurdles) and sophomore Lynden Worley (first in high jump) all pulled in multiple points for the Lady Bears.
The team also finished in the top three of the 4x100 relay. With district just a few weeks away, the team continues to improve with its sights set on making noise in the TAPPS 5A division.
The boys were bolstered by senior Hollis Harlan, who took second in the 800, third in the 400 and was the third leg of the 4x400 relay which finished fourth. Elsewhere, the boys 4x100 relay team of senior Conor Schehl and juniors Jack Hansen, Brayden Jennings and Trey Campbell finished second.
Senior Griffin Smith was fourth in both the 110 and 300 hurdles, while sophomore Joshua Gonzales finished third in the discus.
