The Brentwood Christian School varsity boys soccer team closed out a tremendous season filled with growth, leadership, and teamwork, all under the goal of playing by faith in our Savior.
Playing away from home on Jan. 28, the Bears faced their biggest rival in a game that carried extra intensity and importance. From the start against Hyde Park, BCS controlled possession, connected sharp passes, and attacked with confidence.
The Bears’ composure and teamwork resulted in a dominant 6-1 victory, proving their preparation and determination in one of the biggest matches of the season.
Head coach Cash Miller reflected on the year as more than just a series of wins.
“I would describe this season as a tremendous success,” Miller said, “not just because of wins and results, but because of the growth we saw from the first day to the final match.
“The team bought into the process, competed with consistency, and represented our school with class. It was a really good season, and I’m very pleased with how they performed.”
The team earned the number three seed at the conclusion of the regular season. In the district tournament, the Bears faced Regents for a second time. After a heartbreaking, 4-3 loss in the first game on Jan. 13, BCS was fired up for the rematch.
It didn’t go the Bears’ way, and the loss ended their season, but with nearly 30 student-athletes in the program and the team rebounding from a rough 2024-25 campaign, hopes are high for the future.
Growth was evident throughout the season, especially in high-pressure moments like the Hyde Park rivalry game. The Bears showed maturity, discipline, and unity that was reinforced by the leadership of the senior class.
“Our seniors set the tone,” Miller said.
Seniors included Jacob Valladares, Liam McGaughy, Rylee Johnson, Lleyton Drennon, Dylan Sloan, Amir Dadashazar, Pasha Petty, Brayden Jennings, Kale Anderson and Jensen Nehrig.
“Their leadership wasn’t always loud, but it was steady and dependable,” Miller said. “They modeled what preparation, effort, and accountability should look like…their impact will be felt beyond this season because they’ve helped shape the direction of the program.”
The team’s faith also played a meaningful role in their success.
“One way we kept Christ at the center this season was by praying together before games and practices,” said sophomore Levi Sneed. “That helped remind me that sports are about more than just winning.
“They are also about honoring God with my attitude, effort, and how I treat others. I think our team also tried to encourage each other and play with integrity, which showed our faith on and off the field.”
Valladares, McGaughy, Nehrig, Anderson and junior goalkeeper Henrik Dawson were named all-district. The team will also return Sneed, junior Tucker Smith, sophomore Teagan McBride and standout freshman Jacob Stooksberry to next year’s squad.
With a statement rivalry win and a season defined by growth, leadership, and faith, the Bears will have their sights set on a return to the playoffs in 2027.
