Known for his amazing head of hair, leadership skills throughout all areas, and warm smile, Kale Anderson is one of the most beloved, involved, and relational students at Brentwood Christian School. Either playing soccer, working behind the scenes in the high school theater productions, or getting hard work done in his classes, Anderson is crucial at BCS.
Anderson has been attending Brentwood since sophomore year, where he immediately found quick friends and activities to participate in. If anyone has ever had the pleasure to talk with Anderson for a moment, it is evident in the way that he talks to others that he truly cares about what others say, and has very interesting anecdotes and comments for everything.
“What distinguishes Kale from other people is his personality; he’s very friendly and personable,” senior Everett Merrell said. “He gets along with everyone, and there’s not a single person Kale can’t get along with.”
As well as his magnetic personality, Anderson never backs out of something once he has committed to it. Academically, this is shown in his work ethic in extremely difficult classes like AP Biology, and AP Calculus. Anderson is constantly working to understand challenging subjects, and learn from his mistakes instead of taking shortcuts or giving up when something is hard to grasp.
Anderson holds a huge leadership position as well, being the class president for the senior class. Leading others is demanding and hard, especially because he is helping lead his friends, where it is easy to get distracted and caught up in conversations. However, Anderson is committed and balanced in his leadership approach, always leading with humility and by example.
“Being class president has taught me lots about public speaking and how being yourself and not trying to put up a front can take you a long way,” Anderson said. “It has also allowed me to strengthen my relationships with my classmates and the underclassmen that will be carrying on our legacy.”
Anderson values the impact he makes on others.
If you ever hear some chanting from the other side of a classroom wall, it is very likely the senior class chanting Anderson’s name, a habit that was formed at the beginning of senior year at the retreat. Every time he stands up to address a group of people, there will be people yelling, “Kale! Kale! Kale! Kale!”
“Kale has quite a big influence on our student body,” senior Jacob Valladares said. “He’s super nice to everyone, and that helps him be a leader to others while still not bossing others around.”
Of course, Anderson cannot be mentioned without recognizing his amazing extracurricular activities. Anderson is an avid thrifter, going to Goodwill and nearby stores just about every day. He loves being around friends who make him laugh, and enjoys smaller hobbies like cooking, playing golf, working out, and finding new places to try out.
Amir Dadashazar shares his favorite memory of Anderson, exemplifying his love for being around friends and laughing together.
“I picked up Kale because he had a car problem, and on our way to Playland Skating Rink, we were driving down the highway with the windows down blaring music.
“It was so fun having that moment, and we found a ladybug while we were driving, so now I think of Kale when I see a ladybug.”
All 3 years at BCS, Anderson has played soccer, placed in the critical role of central defender, and willing to go wherever the team needed him. Anderson has been an Academy 4 Mentor and Spark Group Leader since junior year, and just this year has helped move sets and keep everything in the Musical flowing from one thing to the next while working on the Theater Tech Crew.
While all the things mentioned above are amazing, who Anderson is as a friend, and as his own individual is even better. Ask anyone who knows Anderson, they can affirm this. Consistent words that have been used to describe him are kind, funny, personable, magnetic, and charming. When you’re around Anderson, you’re most likely smiling!
“I admire how kind Kale is to everyone,” Merrell stated. “He’s very nice, and once you get to know him, you get to know his sense of humor and his jokes that are never pointed or are said to bring others down.
“He’s always got something to say, and he’s witty.”
This genuine care for others is being carried into Anderson’s future plans, where he plans to pursue a pre-med track and major in Biology. Whether this leads Anderson to become a PA, go to medical school, or become a doctor, Anderson wants to practice medicine and help others.
Be sure to compliment Anderson’s great hair when you see him walking in the hallways, and chant his name along with the rest of the seniors! We love our class president!
